Vinyl/Vinyl Composite
Vinyl and Vinyl Composite
Vinyl and vinyl composite flooring are
the most common types of resilient flooring today. Vinyl floors are pure or
homogenous; vinyl composite is composed mainly of vinyl with limestone (calcium
carbonate) filler. This filler makes the vinyl composite floor more brittle,
most susceptible to high-heel indentation marks, and more porous than homogenous
vinyl. As a result of these basic differences, pure vinyl floors are generally
easier to build gloss (since the finish stays on the surface), but tend to scuff
and black heel mark more readily. Vinyl and vinyl composite floors are easily
maintainable by any maintenance system.
New tile, as received from the factory, typically
is coated with a factory finish. This coating prevents the tiles from sticking
together in storage or transport.
The factory finish must be removed prior to the
application of a sealer or finish. This may be accomplished mainly through the
abrasive action of stripping or deep scrubbing. Loss of finish adhesion and
leveling problems may result if the factory finish is not removed.
Stripping Procedure
1. Dust mop entire area with a dust mop treated with Taski Solsan dust mop
treatment and remove gum and debris.
2. Strip floor using one of Scoles Floorshine strippers and a black stripping pad.
Lay stripper down using an old mop and let sit for 5 to 30 minutes.
3. After floor is stripped, neutralize floor using Scoles Floorshine Neutralizer. Use
a different mop.
4. Pick up neutralizer with a wet/dry vacuum.
5. Damp mop floor with clear water.
6. Let floor dry completely. Use air movers to speed up drying time.
7. Depending on system to be used, either apply 2 coats of sealer and 3 coats
of finish or 5 coats of sealer/finish. Always use a finish mop or a finish
applicator.
Daily Maintenance
1. Dust mop entire area with a dust mop treated with Taski Solsan dust mop
treatment.
2. Damp mop or use a automatic scrubber with one of Scoles Floorshine
neutral cleaners.
3. To improve shine, use a ultra high speed burnisher with Scoles Floorshine
burnishing gel or mop-on restorers.
