EcoSMART's plant oil active ingredients target and block receptor sites for a key neurotransmitter called octopamine which is only found in invertebrates (i.e. insects), causing a total breakdown in the insect?s nervous system. Mammals, birds and fish do not have receptors for octopamine so EcoSMART?s plant oils have no adverse effect on them.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the "minimum-risk" category in 1996 to help expedite the development of alternative pesticides. To qualify as "minimum-risk", all ingredients (both actives and inerts) must be food grade material. Pesticides that qualify as "minimum-risk" pose absolutely no risk to humans, pets or the environment, and are exempt from EPA registration.
